I Love George Town Run.
In conjunction with George Town receiving its status as a UNESCO world heritage site, the “I Love George Town Run” returned for its third year running. 1st Avenue was proud to once again be hosting a run that benefits the charity homes with proceeds helping those in need of healthcare as well as various charity organisations.
Penang is home to many of Malaysia’s colonial past and it was on this island that the British first staked a claim under the operations of the East India Trading Company. This event aimed not only to promote George Town’s heritage but served as part of the mall’s CSR initiative.
The “I Love George Town Run” raced along the cultural and heritage precinct, inviting runners to take in the sites and culture that earmarked George Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the runners geared up from as early as 5am on the morning of 19 August, it was a welcome sight to see a sea of blue gathered on the ground floor of 1st Avenue.
Runners were at their marks in anticipation to kick off the 8km fun run way before the stipulated time of 6.30am. They were out of the gates before the sun could rise and runners made their way around George Town passing sites such as Fort Cornwallis, one of Penang’s most well-known landmarks.
As the sun started to peek over the horizon, runners had passed Penang State Museum, reputedly one of the best museums and galleries in all of Malaysia, featuring exhibits that showcased Pe-nang’s rich historical artefacts.
