Hougang residents are in for a treat! The heartland mall has lined up a series of hands-on workshops and promotions that celebrates the community’s love for food and cooking.

Love Food, Reduce Waste: Have any canned food in the back of your cupboards that’s about to expire? Put them to good use at Hougang Mall’s Food Art Sculpture event at Level 1 atrium, in partnership with The Food Bank Singapore! Near-expired and expired food items will be used to construct a 3D sake and assorted sushi structures, while expired dried food items will be used to create larger-than-life local snacks including gem biscuits and ang ku kueh. This initiative is part of Food Bank and the mall’s commitment to reduce food wastage and educate the public about the myths of ‘ugly produce’. Shoppers can donate canned and dried food items that have expired or are close to expiring, at the Customer Service Counter on level 3, from now until 27 July.

Healthier Meals Cooking Demonstration: To help Hougang residents learn about the different ways of adopting a healthier diet, the Health Promotion Board (HPB)’s qualified nutritionists will run a Cooking Demonstration in Hougang Mall’s level 1 atrium, showcasing tips to make a tasty and healthier meal by using different ingredients and cooking techniques for dishes like Sayur Lodeh, Fruity Seafood Fried Rice, Steamed Chocolate Cake and Creamy Chicken with Mushroom Spaghetti. The nutritionists will also dish out a few tips on calorie literacy.

Hands-on Craft Workshops: Over the same weekend, there will also be a variety of DIY workshops including a Food Clay Fridge Magnet workshop (28 and 29 July, 1-3pm) and a Kids Food Clay and Keychain Workshop (28 July, 3-5pm). Get creative and mould clay into your favourite local delights, such as nonya kuehs and cupcakes. The workshops are exclusively available for AMperkz members who spend min. $20 in a same-day single receipt, on a first-come-first served basis. There will also be a Design Your Own Tote Bag Workshop (29 July, 2-5pm) hosted by the National Library Board. To participate, shoppers need to borrow four items from the Cheng San Public Library (#03-11) and present their receipt for entry.

The mall is also offering Stamp and Redeem promotion from 20 July to 19 August. Shoppers can stamp their way to redeem up to $95 worth of AsiaMalls vouchers by collecting a ‘Get Stamped! Card’ from the Customer Service Counter on level 3, and follow the stamp trail to redeem $5, $10 and $30 AsiaMalls’ vouchers along the way. Be among the first 100 shoppers to collect all 9 stamps and stand a chance to receive additional $50 AsiaMalls vouchers. Voucher availability is limited, so act fast and shop first!

During the same period, new sign-ups for AMperkz, also stand to receive a $5 Pezzo voucher. More information is available at the mall’s Customer Service Counter on level 3 or the website at
