SWOP for a Cause @ Tampines 1 | |
Following the success of the SWOP Party last year, Tampines 1 held a second SWOP Party at the roof terrace last Sat 6 Feb. Some 100 participants came with their old but good condition fashion apparel and practiced the 3Rs (reuse, recycle and reduce) by swopping clothes with others. Items that were not taken at the end of the session were donated to Salvation Army. Lianne, a self-professed eco-warrior, read about the SWOP party in Straits Times Urban. She donated over 20pcs of clothing and brought along her 12-yr-old student for the experience. Lianne believes in the adage “One man’s meat is another man’s poison”, and felt that the SWOP party is a great way of reusing. As an added incentive, a luck draw was conducted after the event for all participants. Renna won the 1st prize of $300 Carlo Rino shopping vouchers. This was her 3rd time attending a SWOP party and she felt that the event was a meaningful way to start the year. There were also 12 consolation winners of $50 FILA shopping vouchers each. Proceeds from the event were donated to “Beautiful People”, a voluntary organization which supports disadvantaged teen girls and helps them to integrate into society through education, counseling and moral support.
