Recognition for AsiaMalls' Recycling Efforts

Under the on-going Food Waste Recycling programme at Century Square and Tiong Bahru Plaza, food waste from the food outlets at the malls is converted into compost and electrical power after treatment at a food waste recycling plant. Such green measures have proven to be sustainable since 2007 when they were first introduced in the malls.

These efforts were given recognition by the National Environment Agency (“NEA”)and North East CDC to mark Recycling Day on 26 September 09.

The event was graced by Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development and MP for Tampines GRC, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources  and Mr Joseph Hui, Director-General of NEA.

For AsiaMalls, energy conservation and recycling are significant considerations in mall management.

White Sands Tenants All For Improving Shopfront Display Skills

Shop tenants  find out about the effectiveness of visually appealing shopfront displays.

12 participants from Bata, Bengawan Solo, Jollibean, Sportslink and Surfers’ Paradise, attended training on Visual Merchandising Presentation at the centre management office (27 October to 12 November).

Principles were outlined in a practical manner relating to the tenants’ nature of business:
• Conducive store layout
This allows the shopper to move about easily within the store and have a good view the store’s offerings
• Use of colour stories in fashion apparel display
Fashion apparel can look visually appealing when displayed in similar tones ranging from light to dark either horizontally or vertically
• Use of lifestyle stories in merchandise display
Fashion separates and accessories can be put together to suggest different co-ordinated looks for different occasions
• Clear vision of entire shop
Ensuring that bulky fixtures and mannequins do not block other areas within the shop
• Good housekeeping
Constant vigilance to ensure that empty racks are topped up with merchandise and personal belongings to be kept out of view.

The participants applied what they had learnt almost immediately. White Sands management is confident that the more attractive shopfront displays and improved shop ambience will create an exciting experience for  shoppers and  will correspondingly bring about higher foot traffic and sales.

The course on Monitor Visual Merchandising Presentation will be offered to AsiaMalls tenants on an on-going basis, on-site at the malls.
