Emergency Preparedness Simulation Exercise at Century Square | |
Century Square carried out an emergency simulation exercise successfully on 30 July 09. This was an important exercise to ensure that all levels of staff are familiar with their respective roles and procedures in dealing with a crisis and to test and improve upon current standard operating procedures. In the simulation exercise, the team worked together to mitigate damage caused by a fault in the ejector pump connected to the waste management system. Flooding at the basement floors affected accessibility to the car park and tenants’ business. The team also dealt with scenarios such as personal injury and strategies to manage negative press through clear communication with the public. While the action took place on location, the management teams of all 6 malls were able to follow the events broadcasted ‘live’ at the centre management office. The exercise has underscored the importance of procedures, safety measures and communication channels so that normalcy levels can be restored as soon as possible. |  |
Launch of Hua Mei Centre for Successful Ageing, Central Plaza | |
The Hua Mei Centre for Successful Ageing located on 15th storey of Central Plaza, Tiong Bahru Road, was officially launched by President S R Nathan on 18 September 09. Operated by the Tsao Foundation, the Centre aims to promote self-care and active ageing for those aged 40 and above. Health-care, social and financial education services are provided under one roof with services such as the Hua Mei Mobile Clinic, Seniors Clinic, Acupuncture and TCM Clinic and an adult day health centre for the frail and at-risk older persons with multiple chronic diseases. With a team of doctors, nurses, therapists, senior fitness instructors, social workers, counselors, the Centre aims to provide dignity and quality care in ageing particularly among those in the low income groups. The Centre also plans to promote educational programmes on health , financial literacy and personal empowerment. Central Plaza’s central location and the user-friendly building services here and in Tiong Bahru Plaza, make it the ideal location for such a facility - the first of its kind in Singapore that offers integrated community care for the elderly. |  |
Molly the Mobile Library @ Tiong Bahru Plaza | |
Tiong Bahru Plaza now offers the convenience of a mobile library every last Sunday of the month. Molly the Mobile Library will offer shoppers the chance to borrow books or to check their book loan records. There are even fun programmes such as art workshops, story telling and skit performances on board the bus. This library on wheels was remodelled from an SBS bus to resemble a real library. Housing some 3,000 books which are replenished daily, the bus has a borrowing station and e-kiosk where users can check book loan records and pay fines using ez-link cards. Molly also runs programmes such as art workshops, storytelling and skit performances. The cheery library-on-wheels gives book lovers a chance to literally hop onto a journey into the fascinating world of books.
