On-Site Bite-Sized Training in Service Excellence for Shop Tenants

A new and innovative mode of training for tenants - Customer Service Training is now offered “On-Site” within the mall and “Bite-sized” by the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies for tenants at White Sands, Century Square and Hougang Mall.

During each of the 8 training sessions, participants attend one hour of training in the centre management office. This is followed by on-the-job coaching by the trainer within the shop premises, to reinforce what was taught during the session.

Participants at the malls:
White Sands:
Selffix The Home of DIY, ZONE X Leisure, I Moment, KinKang, MMI Fashion, Cottage Pies Café, Coffee Club and Koolook.

Century Square: New Nada Hairdressing Salon, City Chain, Xpressflower.Com, ILT96, Lim’s Deli, Century Cineplex, Food Junction, Tins & Bottles and I*con by Shunji Matsuo.

Everyone's Going Social!

Social House, Singapore's largest nightspot in a shopping mall, is now open at Liang Court. Located on Level 1, the $5 million Social House has 3 distinct areas - a main bar with seven entertainment rooms, a chic Japanese UMAMI dining lounge and an intimate BUBBLE BUBBLE chill out bar.

SOCIAL HOUSE – offers top 40s and R&B music entertainment, featuring guest DJs and special events.  State-of-the-art private rooms provide the latest karaoke equipment and songs, with facilities for Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Song Playstation 3, for a night of finger busting fun.

UMAMI  – a fine dining restaurant and chill out lounge offering a tasteful selection of 'east meets west' cuisine and fine wine.

BUBBLE BUBBLE – for that dash of exclusivity, a private area with its very own bar, allows total relaxation and enjoyment of soothing music.

Food Waste Recycling @ Tiong Bahru Plaza and Central Plaza

In line with the government’s Green Plan 2012, Tiong Bahru Plaza and Central Plaza successfully rolled out its Food Waste Recycling Programme on 1 May 2009.

Tenant participation has been very positive with a total of 42 F&B tenants involved.  The programme is expected to make a significant impact on the environment, since food waste constitutes approximately 11% of the total waste output in Singapore.

In food waste recycling, our F&B tenants separate food waste and non-food waste when they dispose them in specially designated waste disposal locations and food bins.

Food waste is then transported to a food waste recycling plant operated by waste management specialist IUT Singapore Pte Ltd to be treated and recycled. End results – a nutrient-rich bio-compost which can be used for farming and landscaping and methane which can be harnessed to produce electrical energy.

Tampines 1 Reaching Out To Shoppers Through Viral Marketing

Tampines 1, the New Generation Mall for the Young and Savvy, is probably one of the first malls to engage its shoppers through guerilla marketing and social media.  These Viral Marketing activities provide quick time information and inject elements of fun and personality when connecting with shoppers.

Besides the mall website, shoppers can log onto the Mall Blog to get the latest information on shops and mall events and to post their comments. They can chat on Twitter, join Tampines 1’s fan group in Facebook and view events posted on YouTube.

In its “Spring to L1FE” campaign, Tampines 1 created an element of surprise and brought the events right to where the shoppers were.

• Life-sized dolls planted themselves among shoppers and suddenly sprung to life when someone wound them up with a key!

• Swimmers donning swimsuits and bathing caps performed ‘synchronized swimming’ in the ankle deep pool to everyone’s amusement, communicating the message of “Renewed Energy Springs to Life”.
• Pairs of twins surprised commuters in MRT trains and drove home the message “Spring to L1FE at Tampines 1”.

• Shoppers gave their wackiest pose and got their photos digitally enhanced with green cheeks in the mall’s ‘Go Green and Grin’ promotion. No doubt, these pictures will soon be circulated to their family and friends on Facebook and MMS!

Rebekah Woo, Manager, Advertising & Promotions, commented “Being positioned the New Generation Mall for the Young and Savvy, Tampines 1 hopes to reach out to its target audience by using social media and engaging them through interactive mall activities.  Shoppers love the fact that they can interact with us and share their shopping experiences through our mall blog, FaceBook group and Twitter.”
