Graduates from Pilot Project "On-site, Bite-sized Training" at White Sands
In a collaboration with NTUC, AsiaMalls organized a unique On-site, Bite-sized training programme for White Sands tenants. The pilot project aimed to allow tenants to receive training without having to commute to a training location outside the mall. In addition to classroom training, participants received the benefit of on-the-job coaching from the trainer. We are confident that these graduates from Kopitiam, Jollibean, Cafe Galilee and Banquet will inspire their colleagues to start on a similar learning journey, to excel and to offer Service Excellence from the Heart.
AsiaMalls' Sponsorship for Cambodian Orphanage
There is a different touch this year to the Christmas promotions at our malls. Besides setting aside the necessary budget for Christmas decorations and irresistible shopping promotions, AsiaMalls decided to sponsor a Cambodian Orphanage under Operation Hope Foundation (“OHF”). 14 children from the orphanage are here in Singapore from 3 to 22 December to perform at Tiong Bahru Plaza, Century Square, Hougang Mall, White Sands and Liang Court. Shoppers were charmed by their traditional dances such as the Khmer Blessing Dance. The public can support the orphanage by purchasing exquisite polymer clay jewellery and handbags made by local Khmers who have learnt handicraft skills at the livelihood centres run by the Foundation. Special Outing by AsiaMalls Staff During the week, the children took a break from their mall performances to enjoy a whole day outing organized by AsiaMalls staff. Each child had an AsiaMalls buddy to make sure that he or she had a great time! Snow City was the first stop in a day full of special treats for the teenagers. The children had exhilarating rides down the icy slopes at Snow City. 13-year-old Sophea insisted on riding the snow tube despite turning blue in the face. A hot drink and a big hug from our staff volunteer soon warmed her up immediately after the ride! At Omni Theatre, we hoped to thrill the teenagers with the immersive cinematic experience with superb surround sound quality…and we certainly succeeded! Riding on the Singapore Flyer, the children got to see panoramic views of iconic and historical landmarks from the Marina Bay to the Singapore River, Raffles Place, Merlion Park, Empress Place and the Padang. Everyone found that no matter what the language problems may be, there was no problem in communicating care and concern for each other…. humour is universal after all and there were great laughs throughout the fun-filled day! AsiaMalls staff generously donated cash to the orphanage. Part of the donations was used to purchase 6 brand new keyboards for OHF’s Hobby Centre in Cambodia. The remaining cash donation was given to OHF to be used for other necessities required by the orphanage. Other staff contributed their unused possessions such as guitar, board games, balls, books and etc. For many of the AsiaMalls staff, it was their first encounter with orphans from a third world country. Indeed, all the staff were touched by the children’s zest for life despite their troubled family experiences. The experience during the Christmas season has given AsiaMalls staff a chance to give the children the gift of their friendship during a season of Love and Giving. Go Green @ White Sands
White Sands, in collaboration with the NorthEast CDC, showcased innovative ideas contributed by 14 primary and secondary schools in a ‘North East Schools Go Green’ Competition. The 14 primary and secondary schools showed that it was both convenient and inexpensive to go green with their many new and workable ideas. Mr Michael Palmer, MP for Punggol GRC was present on 22 March 09 to review the unique ideas and to award the winners. Some of the winning ideas: • Using solar panels connected to a 12v re-chargeable battery to charge mobile phones. At Hilda’s Primary School some lockers were converted into mobile phone charging stations. • Extracting oil from Jatropha Seeds which can be used as an alternative source of bio fuel [Primary and Secondary School Category Results] | ![]() |
