Commemorating World Mental Health Day at Hougang Mall

Hougang Mall collaborated with Silver Ribbon to commemorate World Mental Health Day on 5 October. The event aims to combat the stigma of mental illness through increased awareness and understanding, so that early treatment can be encouraged.

The event, themed “Happy Days” began significantly with a 4.5 km morning walk flagged off by Guest of Honour Minister Teo Chee Hean. At Buangkok Green Medical Centre, the “turning point”, walk participants wrote words of encouragement to mental sufferers to resolutely continue their journey of recovery.

Back at Hougang Mall, Stephanie Ho, General Manager of AsiaMalls and Chia Boon Khiang, Director of Singapore Children’s Society, had the pleasant task of deciding the best among the artworks submitted by children at Hougang Mall’s Children’s Art Competition.

Shoppers and walk participants were treated to a rousing welcome with performances by Joseph Wong of Budak Pantai and the Youth Centre (Jurong) from the Singapore Children’s Society.

Professionals and school counselors offered insights and useful strategies on coping with life’s challenges through their talks on School Bullying, Early Psychosis Intervention, Parenting and Dealing with Depression.

AsiaMalls' Support for Breast Cancer Survivors

AsiaMalls' Support for Breast Cancer Survivors

Century Square successfully held a "Positively Pink" event on 8 October 08 in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Foundation to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.

Breast cancer survivors from needy backgrounds were each given $1,000 worth of AsiaMalls shopping vouchers and enjoyed a fun-filled day of shopping and pampering treats at Century Square.  The mall's encouraging message is that breast cancer patients can still lead active, meaningful and beautiful lives, despite their illness.

Kerstin Soh, 24, is one such breast cancer survivor who experienced her first manicure and pedicure at Century Square.  For another breast cancer survivor, Azizah Mohd, 36, it was money well spent on her two girls and a sumptuous meal at Ramen-Ten with her family.

Shopping and pampering treats were given courtesy of BHG Department Store, ICON by Shunji Matsuo (#03-01), JYJY (#02-03/04), PINC (#02-20) and Ramen-Ten (#01-37).

Ms Emily Fong, Century Square's Centre Manager said, "Now that we've gotten such positive feedback and seen the joy that this event has brought to the patients, we will consider doing it again, with more patients and involving more tenants next time round."

Grand Re-launch of Liang Court

AsiaMalls proudly unwraps a Revitalised, Refreshed, Remixed and Revamped Liang Court during Liang Court’s Grand Relaunch on 14 November.

Liang Court opens its doors to offer a whole new shopping experience to Singaporeans, expatriates and international visitors alike – a unique experience of Asia Fusion by the River.

In the words of our Chief Executive Officer Mr Michael Leong, “Our vision embraced a vibrant retail mall on the banks of the Singapore River, synonymous with traditional and contemporary Asian Culture in all its many splendid forms. We envisioned a tantalising mix of food and beverage outlets, a handpicked selection of fashion, beauty and wellness brands, a hub of technology and a hive of activity. The reality is everything we imagined, and more.”

The opening ceremony began with a brilliant flourish – a live calligraphy performance by internationally acclaimed Japanese calligrapher and performance artist Koji Kakinuma.

Kakinuma-san created a massive 20-ft-long mural representing the unique geographical positioning of Liang Court. Flanked by the ‘mountains’ of Fort Canning Park and the Singapore River, it sits poised between the elements and is presided over by a golden tropical sun. The golden sun symbolises Asia Fusion, the unique new positioning of Liang Court that embraces all of Asia, modern and traditional, receptive to western influences yet inextricably rooted in the east.

Mr Bernard Loh, Director Portfolio Management of Pramercia Real Estate Investors (Asia) Pte Ltd, Mr Ben Yeo, Group Managing Director of Guthrie GTS Limited, and Mr Michael Leong, CEO, AsiaMalls, completed the finishing touches to the masterpiece, marking the Grand Re-opening of Liang Court.

To communicate the new positioning of Liang Court to shoppers, a multi-media advertising campaign was launched. Manga-style teaser advertisements appeared in the Straits Times, featuring Naomi and her girlfriends’ speculation as to her whereabouts. On the Grand Re-launch day itself readers find Naomi and her friends shopping, dining and having fun at Liang Court.

Liang Court shoppers even had the experience of meeting Naomi in FaceBook. Netizens who  continuously followed Naomi’s whereabouts in FaceBook were thrilled to receive shopping vouchers when they met up with Naomi in person at Liang Court!

On-Site Bite-Sized Training for White Sands' F&B Tenants

AsiaMalls is working in partnership with NTUC to develop On-Site, Bite-sized Training on Customer Service to the mall tenants. The programme is targeted to tenants who may find difficulty in sending their staff for training due to limited manpower resources.

A pilot customer service training project developed especially for White Sand’s Food & Beverage tenants is being conducted during the period November/December 08.

Some 22 participants from Jollibean, Café Gallilee, Banquet and 16 stalls within Kopitiam’s food court attended a one hour class room training conducted by Kaplan over 5 days commencing on 10 November. After the one hour session, the participants were given on-the-job coaching by the course trainer during the 5 day training period.

The participants learnt about communication skills, customer service, up-selling, hygiene and personal grooming and getting into a customer-centric mindset.

In the module on communication, the trainer outlined the correct body language to be adopted and participants were taught to pay undivided attention to their customers and to listen with both ears and hearts.

After the class lessons, trainers monitored the participants’ performances and service standards on the job. They provided feedback to participants and made suggestions for improvements.

Course trainer Oliver Teo said “The training serves to reinforce the concept of service from hygiene to providing what the customers want. With immediate coaching after the training, this course also provides opportunities for internalization.”

A Mystery Diner report before and after the entire course will enable participating F&B tenants to see recognizable gains in sending their staff for this innovative form of training.

Ms Kanitha Chumchit, from the Curry Mixed Rice stall in Kopitiam, received a favourable rating from the Kaplan trainers. She said, “This course allows me to know the proper way of serving the customer and to further improve my level of customer service.”
