Hougang Mall and White Sands have put Singapore in the global retail industry map. The malls are among 13 finalists selected among the best in Asia under the Grand Opening, Expansion and Renovation category awards.

Hougang Mall's Repositioning Strategy and Relaunch

During Hougang Mall's revamp in 2006/2007, the mall embarked on a strategy of repositioning through a new tenant mix, mall facilities, customer services, branding identity and exciting promotional events.

This has increased shopper traffic by 50% when compared to 2004. The mall has successfully repositioned itself from a convenience mall to a trusted local mall offering an enjoyable experience for the family.

The mall has improved standards of customer service among tenants through customer-centric initiatives offering incentives and recognition to tenants in training programmes and through Best Service Shop and Best Service Staff Contests.

During the mall Relaunch in September 2007, the mall's Family Camp Out Challenge offered a fun-filled weekend for families to experience a unique camp out experience at the mall. Families pitched and decorated their tents and competed with other families in fun activities. They even had a chance to set the national record for the "Most Number of People Barbequing Marshmallows!"

White Sands' Repositioning Strategy and Relaunch

White Sands is positioned as an Active-Life Mall, appealing to families and fun seekers in the recreational area of Pasir Ris.

Shoppers had a fun time during White Sands' "Sandsational Holiday" in August 2007, trying out their skills in Bike-athon Challenge, a 6-hour bike marathon. Families took part in a Bike-In Community Ride, riding around the White Sands vicinity after a roaring flag-off by Minister Teo Chee Hean.

Under the mall revamp, visitorship at White Sands has increased by 36% since November 2004. White Sands aims to offer a shopping experience which is fun and appealing to all who engage in an active lifestyle.
